Device Overload EP

by Tom Dazing

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Quake is best described in one simple word: analogue. Hardware freaks to the core, this belgium based enigmatic duo makes their tracks with as little use of software as possible.
It's only fitting that this release will be available on a limited run of 300 copies, pressed on white vinyl, and mastered to perfection by mister Cass Irvine at Wired London. His credentials include mastering the likes of Carl Craig's Planet E to Swedish House Mafia, Dennis Ferrer or Minstry Of Sound, to name just a few.

Overall, the EP is a different approach to techno that seems to be coming at the right time as the pure, droning berlin techno seems to be at that crossroad where it needs to reinvent itself. We hope that this is exactly what you might be looking for.

The title track is brutally minimalistic and simple, letting the hardware rip through whatever the amount of randomness it could handle. Plenty of distortion, electronic static and a genral detroit'ish feel give it just that typical unsettling sound.

The second track is a remix by our biggest hero of all time: Marcel Fengler. Berghain resident, an established techno producer and creator of the most recent Berghain mix cd and his own imprint. His remix is a massive shuffled techno drone that builds on the spooky strings from the original but takes it to a more pumping edge. Tested and approved on the KozzMozz dancefloor.

TX81Z is the b-side opener and takes everything a bit deeper for the techno opening sets. Once again the amount of variation is stunning considering this was all done with hardware during a major jamming session.

Condor is last but not least: a truely pumping techno monster that stands on the shoulders of detroit giants. It takes several times to take in just how much is happening in this track.
